The education system collects data about a number of issues including attendance and achievement through testing processes such as NAPLaN and Running Records.
Teachers use data to inform their teaching practice and cater for the individual needs of students in their classes. Teachers must be able to diagnose and act on these needs.
We have created a Data Wall at Maitland Area School to provide a visual representation. The pictures of the students’ faces upon this and where they are performing according to national Literacy & Numeracy testing has led to in-depth discussions amongst staff.
“Putting faces” on a data wall to track student achievement is strengthening the shared responsibility for the Literacy and Numeracy needs of our students, regardless of the subject areas teachers work in.
