School Choirs

Students at MAS have access to the Festival Choir  in years 5-7.

The Festival Choir is run by IMS Music teacher Deb Schwartz. The choir learns the repertoire of the Adelaide Festival of Music and selected students perform at the Adelaide Festival Centre.

A HUGE 'well-done!' to all the students who performed at the Showcase Concert on Thursday September 24, you were magnificent!

We had soloists, duets, trios, choirs and (of course) the band all pumped and ready to play some amazing music.

A big shout out to students Sherida and Phillip for their stunning exam pieces for SACE Solo Performance, well done to the comperes, adult mentors, our special guests Sheree and Megan and of course our conductor Deb Schwartz.

Thank yous also go to our huge and appreciative audience; you really helped push the performers beyond the ordinary!

PS You can download our programme here.

Congratulations to the MAS Festival Choir. They did our school proud in the very long morning rehearsal and performed like seasoned professionals in the evening show. Thank you to all the parents who traveled with their children and supported the choir on this great day. And of course a BIG thank you to choir trainer Deb Schwartz for her instruction, guidance and oversight of the choir programme. Well done everyone!

Our Festival Choir was assessed today in a two-hour long workshop session. Comments from the assessor included 'excellent self-managed behaviour','effective dynamics', 'accurate rhythms and steady beat' and 'balanced sound'. Overall the students received a 'B' rating and the comment 'what a great little choir!

Congratulations to Mrs Schwartz and all the students for their fine efforts. Congratulations to the Ardrossan Area School Festival Choir for their well deserved 'B' as well.

Both the Festival Choir and YP Schools Concert Band started rehearsals this week with lots of new faces amongst the regulars. The choir is now at lunch, with students missing only a small part of the preceding lesson. The Concert Band still meets on Wednesdays after school, with students travelling from Kadina, Ardrossan, Minlaton and Yorketown to rehearse with us.

Congratulations to conductor Deb Schwartz, accompanist Jonny Gorden and the MAS Festival Choir. A fabulous, fantastic and fun concert at the Festival Centre that matched the wonderful weather outside.

The show was colourful and moving with outstanding performances by soloists, musicians and guest artists.

Two thumbs up for everyone involved.

Congratulations to our Festival Choir for gaining a very creditable A- grade in their external assessment held on Tuesday, April 8.

The gruelling assessment, conducted by a visiting Festival of Music Assessor, took over two hours. In that time the students demonstrated their skill (and stamina!)  in performing the 2014 set material.

Well done to all students, to our accompanist Jonny Gorden and to conductor Debbie Schwartz.

On Friday 4th April staff, students and community members gathered in the Performing Arts Centre to acknowledge the many years of dedicated service Mrs Kaye McCauley gave to Maitland Area School and to wish her well in her retirement. The Festival Choir, under the direction of Mrs Debbie Schwartz, set the scene for this special event singing as guests arrived.
Head prefect, Patrick Dodd, welcomed everyone and speakers included Charles Wundersitz who spoke on behalf of the present day student body; chair of our governing council, Mrs Victoria Johns who reflected upon Mrs McCauley’s role in the school and family connections and principal, Mr Andrew Gravestocks, who spoke on behalf of the department and the staff. Mr Gravestocks presented Mrs McCauley with a gift in appreciation of her teaching career and Mrs McCauley responded, sharing some very special memories which resulted in many smiles and laughter. A very poignant photo story highlighting Mrs McCauley’s career entertained the audience and we thank Mr Tuck for producing this. The Festival Choir sang “Ngarra Burra Ferra “ and led the singing of the National Anthem.
Mrs McCauley has left an indelible mark on the history of Maitland Area School and generously presented the gift of a clock to Heads of Primary, Koby Polgreen and Lucy Rowe, to ensure all students will be able to check the time during breaks.
