Ardrossan Music Concert Thanks

Thank you to all students, staff and parents who supported the Concert Band rehearsal last week at Ardrossan and the performance at their music concert this week.

It was a very busy two weeks, and we are appreciative of families time and commitment.

The YP Combined Schools Concert Band travelled to Ardrossan on October 27 for the Ardrossan Area School Music Concert.

The band played several numbers as the audience entered then officially opened the concert with the 'Abba On Broadway' medley, 'Hawaii Five-o' and 'How to Train Your Dragon'.

The MAS Festival Choir then joined the Ardrossan Festival Choir to present a combined repertoire.

Thanks as always to the dedicated staff, community members and concert band students.

A HUGE 'well-done!' to all the students who performed at the Showcase Concert on Thursday September 24, you were magnificent!

We had soloists, duets, trios, choirs and (of course) the band all pumped and ready to play some amazing music.

A big shout out to students Sherida and Phillip for their stunning exam pieces for SACE Solo Performance, well done to the comperes, adult mentors, our special guests Sheree and Megan and of course our conductor Deb Schwartz.

Thank yous also go to our huge and appreciative audience; you really helped push the performers beyond the ordinary!

The school Concert Band and Festival Choir helped commemorate the 100th ANZAC anniversary with performances at the ANZAC Dawn Service and community breakfast.

The band has accompanied the community hymns for over 15 years now, and it was gratifying to see the high attendance of staff, students, old scholars and community members for the event.

Principal Andrew Gravestocks and school prefects Nathan Tucker and Lisa Brumfield  laid wreathes and presented ANZAC commemorative books at the memorial during the service.

The Festival Choir then performed at the community breakfast held after the service.

Both the Festival Choir and YP Schools Concert Band started rehearsals this week with lots of new faces amongst the regulars. The choir is now at lunch, with students missing only a small part of the preceding lesson. The Concert Band still meets on Wednesdays after school, with students travelling from Kadina, Ardrossan, Minlaton and Yorketown to rehearse with us.

There was a wonderful turn-out from our music students for the Maitland ANZAC Day Dawn Service.

Joined by community members and ex-scholars, 26 musicians played the traditional Dawn Service hymns and bolstered the considerable community crowd with family and friends while our head prefects presented the ANZAC Day books.

Over 150 people then gathered at the Town Hall for a cooked breakfast and ANZAC presentations.

Thank you to conductor Deb Schwartz, our musicians and family members for attending. A special thank you to the families that travelled from Yorketown, Ardrossan, Minlaton and Kadina to be part of the day.

With not even a day in between, the Concert Band was back on the road again on Saturday December 9, performing at the 2013 Curramulka Lights community gala celebration. The teachers met at the PAC at 4.30pm and transported the equipment to Curramulka for an early setup, leaving everyone time to enjoy a leisurely dinner and wander amongst the many stalls and attractions.
At 6pm we assembled to tune. A sizeable audience also appeared and settled down on the grass to listen to the items. This time the emphasis was on Christmas items, with both contemporary and traditional tunes. The band was well received by the Curramulka crowd and our 45 minute set passed quickly, Thank you to the Curramulka Committee for erecting our tent and to the parents for transportation.
