Well done to Montana Briggs on her recent selection in the State SAPSASA Girls Basketball Team.
Primary students from around the state trialled on 4 occasions before a final team of 10 was chosen.  This year's SA team will travel to Townsville and compete in the State Carnival from August 16-23.
Montana commenced her basketball with the Port Victoria Basketball Club and is currently playing with the Arthurton, Norwood, and Yorkers teams,  and is part of the Development Network Squad Program at Kadina.
Previous Maitland Area School State SAPSASA Basketball Representatives :
  • 2001 Emma Langford to Brisbane
  • 2005 Isabelle Daniel to Melbourne
  • 2011 Georgia Thomson to Canberra

Congratulations to Colin Sansbury & Ben Rigney for being selected for the Port Power AFL Academy.

On Thursday March 20 the Primary Interschool Team travelled by bus to Yorketown to compete in the SYP Primary Schools Sports Day.  With clear skies and eager participants it was pleasing to see everyone help set up the team-area and then head off to their individual events.  It was a warm day and it was fantastic to see the students showcase the school’s sun smart policy by wearing hats and applying sunscreen.
Congratulations to all of the students that competed on the day and it was great to see students willingly take on the events that they were not programmed to do.  All students proudly represented the school and did their very best.  Special congratulations to Isabel Hollams the 2014 7 year old Girl 60m champion and to Ilea Frensch the 2014 11 year old Girl 200m and Discus champion.
The team came 10th in the Handicap Shield and 6th in the Overall Shield.
A big thank you to Miss Koch for organising the day, Mr Allen for driving the bus and setting up the tent and to all the fantastic parents for coming out to support the team.

The Year 3, 4 and 5s travelled to Ardrossan for the annual Diamond Cricket competition. The weather was cool, windy but fly-free as the students played a round-robin set of matches. Both teams played well, with good sportsmanship, determinination and skill on display. Congratulations to Ardrossan for their outright win on the day and to Ardrossan teacher Nick Marsh for his organisation.

Our wonderful groundsmen have been working tirelessly this week to begin painting the Brain Gym!

It has been a very labour intensive job having to first sugar soap all of the walls to remove the squash marks

and then having to put a few white undercoats on before being able to start the fun stuff - THE COLOUR!!

The space is one which already has quite a fun feel.  We have 4 bright walls with lime green, blue, orange and

yellow lighting up the room.

A lot of work is yet to be done to the space but it is very exciting to see work finally underway!!

A big thankyou to both our fantastic groundsmen for all their hard work this week!!

I will put up some more photos of the finished painting product soon and keep watching the blog to see further progress on

the Brain Gym!

A BIG thankyou to my wonderful Ski Trip group! The flowers were beautiful and the chocolates went down a treat!

I really couldn't have asked for a better group of students to take to the snow and you really did make my job very easy!

Looking forward to the next trip in 2015 and maybe seeing some of you on the trip for a second time round.

In the second week of holidays we ran our very first Maitland Area School Ski trip as a standalone school.  Nine students -  Annaliese Moloney, Maddision Briggs, Patrick Dodd, Teagan Layne, Nathan Tucker, Harrison Biggs, Thomas Smart, Tayna Polgreen and Amelia Honner - ventured off to the snowy slopes of Mt Buller.  Teachers who attended the trip were Miss Taheny, Mrs Derrington and myself.
