Maitland Area School

Well, it was a clean sweep for our SYP SAPSASA District Basketballers in Minlaton last Wednesday, July 29 when our Year 5/6/7 boys and girls basketball teams participated in the SYP SAPSASA District Basketball Carnival held at the Minlaton Basketball Stadium.

The boy’s team was coached by Andrew Thomson and umpired by Marie Wheare. The girl’s team was coached by Naomi Davey and umpired by Jess Davies. Bench official and scoring duties came from the generous support of Danny Allan, Kerry Rowe and Simon Wheare.

Conditions were cold and windy on the outside courts all day, yet our boys and girls were not fazed by the elements and began their dominance early, by comfortably defeating our neighbouring school, Maitland Lutheran.

Throughout the carnival our schools dominance continued, easily overcoming the efforts of Minlaton District School, Curramulka/Port Vincent and the two Warooka teams. Our students showed amazing teamwork, sharing the ball around the court with our more experienced players consistently bringing others into the game.

I was also very pleased by the amount of respect our students showed towards other schools. The way they all represented our school was impressive.

Due to our success we have now been invited to compete in the second round of the SAPSASA basketball carnival held on Monday the 17th of August in Kadina. Good luck to everyone involved!
