In week 10 of term 2 four girls from our school went to Adelaide to participate in the 2010 SAPSASA Hockey carnival at the Grange Hockey Club.

They played 11 games over five days only losing two games. The first four days were sunny and calm, the fifth very wet and windy. The Southern Yorke Peninsula (SYP) team came 3rd in the top division, a very pleasing result for their first year in this division.

Well done to the four students from Maitland Area Schoo.

The SYP team was coached by Belinda Wundersitz from Maitland Area School.

PostHeaderIcon Working Bee on Sunday August 1

This Sunday there will be a Working Bee at school at 9am.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. From my perspective it has been great to see the improvements that have been taking place regarding the grounds this year. We are in the process of establishing a committee to plan and implement the landscaping around our new Performing Arts Centre.

If you are interested in being part of this committee, please contact me at school.

PostHeaderIcon Breakfast Club Update 2

Monday was the first day that the Breakfast Club has operated this year at Maitland Area School. I was on yard duty and it was fantastic to see the number of students who chose to access the programme. A big thankyou to the staff who are giving up their time to support the programme.

If you are interested in supporting the programme in any way please contact Belinda Wundersitz at school.

PostHeaderIcon Breakfast Club Update

During the winter months we are planning to run a Breakfast Club so that starting from Week 2, students will be able to get breakfast from the canteen from 8:20am.

We are looking for donations of non perishable items such as Milo, long life milk, sugar, oats, margarine, Vegemite and honey.

These can be brought in to the school front office. Thank you!

PostHeaderIcon Kylie Furneaux Visit

On Wednesday the 30th of June we had a guest speaker come to our school to talk to us about how she became a stunt double.

The small group of secondary students found her story very interesting. She spoke about how she came from a small town here in Australia (Terowie) with a population of approximately 145 people, to living in LA and stunt doubling for big stars such as Jennifer Garner and working closely with Hugh Jackman.

Kylie told us how this career path developed and who inspired her decisions including choices such as working outdoors after her car accident and listening to her body rather than the doctor’s worst case scenario.

She taught us that anything is possible when you believe in yourself and to aim high and work hard to get there.

PostHeaderIcon Staff Visit to Retirement Village

village_visitRecently the staff were privileged to participate in a tour of the Maitland Village, an Eldercare facility in close proximity to the school. Lifestyles Coordinator, Glenda Butler, organised for this to happen and then she met with staff back at the school to discuss ways in which we can work together. There are definite benefits for residents and our children as we learn from each other. We look forward to making plans to put some programmes in place.
