Term 3 is off to a flying start with lots of exciting learning opportunities for our students.
Amazingly, it's Balaklava Eisetddfod time again. Debbie Schwartz and staff will be whisking the Concert Band and Saxophone Ensemble off to Balaklava for the annual competition. This year we get to take our timpani drums!
We'll be off to make Gregory's Quarry a greener place by planting a few hundred trees, courtesy of National Tree Day.

Anna Gubbin is our Year 5 teacher for the first part of the term and we welcome her to the Primary corridor. Anna taught previously at Hallett Cove, is a trained PE and Health teacher and has an interest in digital media. All the best for your time with us Anna.

On the 16th of May “The Screaming Eagles” went to Adelaide for the Aboriginal Power Cup. The team is a combined team and has students from four different schools that meet up at Maitland Area School every Tuesday. The team consist of Kirsty Weetra, Kiara Miller, Kiyanne Sansbury, Lynette Wilson, April Wilson and Nicole Walker from Maitland. Willis Daveson, Teekah Chantrill, Tianna Sansbury and myself (Kayla Masters) from Moonta. Stacey Pratt and Sam Power from Ardrossan and Mikey Aplin from Kadina.

On Sunday May the 27th Ron Edwards, Amelia Honner, Brianna Schwartz, Maddie Greenslade, Jordyn Ingham, Hayley Willson, Connor Briggs, Ben Smart, Henry Honner and Olivia Dyett all attended the Port Hughes Music Camp. The Camp hosted about 67 people.
The camp was for country kids only. We came from areas like the Yorke Peninsula, Mid North, Port Pire regions, Riverland, Barossa Valley, Kimba and many more places.When we got there on Sunday we arranged where we would be sleeping and who with. The P&F have been busy fundraising this year at the SYP Athletics Day and with the bulb catalogues. Thank you for supporting these ventures. We have used the money raised to provide new primary take home readers to the value of $720 and also a new microwave for the canteen.

On Friday the 25th of May the SRC conducted a casual clothes fundraising day. Students were invited to wear their favourite team colours to school to show their support. It was great to see students take up the challenge and wear a variety of team colours.An amount of $150 was raised and donated to the ‘Little Heroes Foundation.’The SRC would like to thank everyone who contributed on the day.

The Toobaloo is a phone-like device that allows children to hear themselves clearly while speaking softly into it. The design of the Toobaloo magnifies their voice allowing them to hear their sounds and words distinctly.
At MAS, in our Junior Primary unit the Toobaloo is used to support skills and development of Speech, Reading and Phonics. Students are able to listen more clearly to their reading rate, phrasing and expression. It has come to my attention during my morning yard duties and wanderings around the school that the number of students wearing our designated uniform has improved significantly! As many of you will be aware we undertook a major review resulting in some changes, including the inclusion of plain black track pants (without large logos or stripes). It is fantastic to see that the vast majority are in compliance with our policy and there is a growing number wearing the full uniform e.g. the inclusion of brown or black shoes. Staffing UpdateThere has certainly been some movement in staffing recently!
Two weeks ago our staff participated in the whole of Southern Yorke Peninsula student free day at our school.
The purpose of the day was to continue familiarising both primary and secondary staff on the content of the Australian Curriculum.
For primary staff the journey has been longer but there is an expectation that the primary cohort of the school will be reporting to parents against the Australian Curriculum in Maths, Science, English and History by the end of the year to parents.
