One of the things that I value greatly about working in a country community is the potential for ongoing communication with parents, caregivers and community members.
Open lines of communication are crucial for us as a school to keep abreast of community thoughts on many issues whether they are large community issues or ones that affect a single student and their family.
As a school we do have a formal grievance procedure that staff, students and parents/caregivers who have problems that need to be worked through in a formal manner, but I would really like to encourage parents to contact your child's teacher if you have questions or concerns.
As Principal, I really appreciate the communication that I have through Governing Council but also from parents generally as by keeping connected with their thoughts and views I believe that we can make the best decisions for the education and care of the young people who attend Maitland Area School.
A recent example involved a parent raising a concern about our uniform policy. By working together we discovered that the parent had accessed a uniform policy on the school website that was out of date. Open communication ensured we were able to rectify the problem simply and easily.
