1262144601_photosMAS was well represented at this year's Maitland ANZAC Dawn Service, held at the War Memorial on Robert Street.

The Concert Band led the service with several students making their Dawn Service 'debut'. A number of adults joined the band for the performance including Tim Schwartz (cornet), Di Morgan (Flute) and Margaret Francis (bass drum).

Head Prefect Jessica Nankivell presented a book on behalf of the SRC while principal Andrew Gravestocks presented one on behalf of the school.

Thanks as always to the parents who transported their children to the service and to the staff members who supported and played with the band.

PostHeaderIcon SRC Induction Ceremony

Our 2010 Student Leaders’ Induction Ceremony was held in the school Recreation Centre last Thursday, February 11.

Our special guests were Ray Agnew, Mayor of Yorke Peninsula, Julie Elies, Chairperson of the Parents and Friends and Ben Wundersitz, Chairperson of the Governing Council

Congratulations to the House Captains, Prefects, SRC and Bus Monitors who were inducted. Ceremonies such as this are an important part of the school community recognising the young leaders that we have at our school. I was proud of the way that they presented themselves and know many others felt the same. Thankyou to all of the community members who joined us in this celebration.

PostHeaderIcon Activities Day

1262144601_photosToday was Activities Day and the weather was beautiful! We raised over $1300 and hope to make a considerable donation to World Vision. The Junior School had a lovely time participating and would like to thank all of the middle and senior school classes and teachers for their efforts. We had our mask day the same day and it was fantastic to see so many colourful and creative masks. The money raised from the casual clothes day has already been spent on gifts for our shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child.

Year 7

Mrs McLean and her Year 7s organised Sumo wrestling and their  confection stall offered some ‘sweet deals’ for its active patrons.

Year 8

Mrs Hasting and Mr Bone’s classes ran the Year 8 milk-shake stall and a competition on the Secondary Oval  for the longest golf drive. Miss Townsend and her Year 8 class sold ice cream with various toppings. The ice cream didn’t even last long enough to melt! Their petting zoo was also popular and the goats and sheep were very happy as students provided non-stop animal-snacks throughout the afternoon.

Year 9

Mrs Koenders and Mr Mutton’s Year 9s served up delicious burritos. Mr Mutton and a number of students offered themselves as targets for water balloons, most of which hit their targets.

Year 10

Mrs Bagshaw, Ms McPharlin, Mr J. Southwood and the Year 10s put together an amazing Putt-Putt golf course. We had many aspiring golfers completing the course and it was wonderful to see the way the older students helped the younger ones through the tricky course. They also sold spuds with various toppings—by all reports these were scrumptious!

Year 11 and 12

Mr Thatcher and Mrs Thomson’s Year 11 and 12 classes barbecued steak sandwiches and ran the Haunted House which was as frightening as always!
