Our journey to the Royal Show started four months ago when we first selected our goats and steers and what a journey it has been!
Students from a range of year levels have contributed to the care of our stock at school, however it was the Year 9s (goats) and Year 10s (steers) who spent their lessons and lunchtimes working towards this big event. They spent many hours feeding, grooming and training our stock in preparation for the Show in September and this year we were fortunate to achieve some amazing results.
2013 Royal Adelaide Show results
Kev (steer donated by Kev Graham- Virangra Red Poll Stud) won his weight class, then competed against the other six heavyweight class winners and was named Champion Heavyweight Domestic Steer. He then went into the 'Grand Final' and won that, so was named Grand Champion Steer on Hoof. This is the ultimate prize and means he was named the best steer in the entire competition (out of approx 180 animals including all schools and stud breeders steers).
Stewie (steer donated by Stuart Redding - Redwood Murray Grey Stud) looked fantastic, but unfortunately didn't attract the judge's attention.
Marvin (goat) placed fifth in his weight class
Greg (goat) placed fifth in his weight class
Bob (goat) won his weight class and then went on to be named Reserve Champion Lightweight Wether on Hoof. Following the result of the carcase competition, Bob was named Supreme Exhibit (the goat with highest overall point score for entire competition out of 197 animals)
(All of our goats came from the farm of Margaret Miller at Wallaroo.)
Well done students!
Our students performed brilliantly in the Grand Parade and looked fantastic in their red MAS Show shirts parading around the main arena with the steers and goats. They also showed great teamwork to keep the stock fed, watered and groomed at the Show. Congratulations to all involved.

Thank You Staff and Parents...
A massive thank you must go to SSO Ali Adams for her work at the Show supervising the Steer team. Thanks also to our wonderful parent helpers (Teresa Robinson, Andrew Honner, Jackie Smart, Tony Lawler, Megan Falco and Michelle Gregory) who assisted with the transport of stock and with supervision of students.
This event would simply not be possible without the great support from our school community.
