On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month 1918, after 4 years of continuous fighting the guns fell silent on the Western Front. Today; 93 years later we celebrate this day as Remembrance Day. It is a day that we honour the men and women who have died in the line of duty for Australia.
War Memorial Ceremony
As part of the Remembrance Day celebrations the Year 4 class was honoured to attend the service at the Maitland War Memorial. It was a special experience as many knew a person who had served or is still on active duty today within the armed forces. It enabled them to remember those people in the minute silence and then honour them by laying a wreath.
The remainder of the school honoured the special day with a Remembrance Day assembly in the Performing Arts Centre. Special images reflecting the themes of the day were projected on the screen. SOSE teacher Pat Hasting then explained the reasons behind the ceremony. Primary School Captains Jackson Moloney and Ebony Short finished with the reading of the Ode to the fallen.
